Week 69

This week has gone by alright... I went on splits with another sister in a neighboring ward and they have an ALL walking area. It was awesome! I loved walking and talking to EVERYONE. All of our appointments fell through that day BUT we had some AWESOME contacts.

We are now teaching a big African American Lady named Gigi, or Shirley, or Sister Bradley. We call her all those names. She is searching and i am so excited for her to recognize truth!

 I live in Mentone

This week I had two opportunities to teach a son and daughter of God who have autism. Both of them are very high functioning BUT I absolutely LOVED teaching them. It totally re-confirmed my love for people with autism. I love the way they get excited and love to learn. It melted my heart. LOVE everyone.

A huge pine cone up in Angelus Oaks.

Dad, I helped a guy pop his clutch. I thought you would be proud of me =)

This is Siena and Sierra =) they are the 6 year old twins! I LOVE teaching them. This week we taught them about Jesus Christ. It was actually kind of difficult trying to figure out how to teach the atonement at a 6yr old level.......... BUT we did it and it was great!

This week i spoke in Church about the Enabling power of the atonement. I have a testimony that God can give us strength beyond our own. I have experienced it many times here on my mission. Next time you are struggling ask God to give you strength. There are many instances in the Book of Mormon where God gave people strength of comfort to overcome trial. Alma 31:31, Mosiah 24:14-15.  Those are the only ones i can think of right now...

Week 68

This week was a faith tester... I'm happy to say that i made it through =) and i found a bunch of awesome quotes on the way.

This one is PERFECT! it helps me to get over myself and helps me to remember that trials are a part of life.

"if the only perfect man who ever lived-even Jesus Christ of Nazareth was called upon to endure great suffering, how can we, who are less than perfect, expect to be free from such challenges?"
- president Thomas S. Monson

"When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power"
-Ezra Taft Benson

"the problem is not the problem, your attitude to the problem is the problem"
-Jack Sparrow

AHHH hahahhah I LOVE that one! it's so true. Attitude is EVERYTHING.

"My people must be tried in all things, that they may be prepared to receive the glory that i have for them, even the glory of Zion; and he that will not bear chastisement is not worthy of my kingdom."
Doctrine and Covenants 136:31

My Birthday was a wonderful day. i got bit by a cat, my mission presidents family sung happy birthday to me and i made my companion sing "county auction" at the end of the night ha ha but the BEST was that I taught two twin 6 year old girls who's mom is an atheist. I taught them about God and that he is their heavenly father and that they are Daughters of God and how he created the whole earth and all the animals and plants. I taught them how to pray too and the little girl with autism prayed at the end =) it was adorable. That's about all i remember my birthday. It was an AWESOME birthday!

I love this gospel. I would be an absolute depressed, rude, negative Wreck without it!

The Picazo family! I am so sad to leave them. But i know they are in Gods hands. They are the ones who came to church for the first time a few weeks ago and every Spanish speaking member talked to them!

Well guess what!?!?!? I’m getting transferred to Redlands!!! I have the Redlands temple in my area!! I’m going to the Mill creek ward. I am so excited to go serve the people in the Redlands area! Goodbye diversity =( I heard it's predominately white peeps............... I guess God is preparing me to come home to that...... just kidding! I’m way excited! I leave on Wednesday. I know that there is something i need to learn there and that there are son's and daughters of God that i need to meet there.

Doing service for the Western Family! we need to sand about 400 blocks!!!! Wow... my hand was getting tired!!!! I love doing service! Mosiah 2:17! i love serving the LORD

He says " hey it's Derrick, you met me today, you gave me your number" I said... "is there anything we can do for you??" he said.. "Uh.. i was just calling to see if you wanted to kick it" Sister Buswell and i look at each other hahahah we say " uh... we are getting ready for bed so....  uh..." he said "ok... goodnight" eeeek!

Talked to a guy in the park he starts "speaking tongues" to us and asks me to speak tongues with him... uh.................

THE BROOKS family! We met them the first week we were here in Fontana and have been great friends ever since! They are a wonderful Christian family they try their hardest to follow Christ. I can't wait for them to accept the gospel someday. I love them so much!

And their dogs =) =) =) it is always a circus going over to their house! I love it!

WE got special permission to watch "meet the Mormons" this week and it was absolutely AMAZING!!  It is such an inspirational movie! it made me laugh and it made me cry. I invite you ALL to go see it. I promise you, that you won't regret it.

"DO YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY????? Forget yourself and get lost in this great cause. Lend your efforts to helping people.. Stand higher, lift those with feeble knees. hold up the arms of those that hang down. Live the gospel of Jesus Christ."

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

I am SOO MUCH more happy when i am thinking about others and how i can help them to be happy, comfortable, confident etc. .I am so grateful that i get to focus my service on Gods children for 18 months!!!

Conference is this weekend!! we get to hear from the prophet!!! ARE YOU KIDDIN ME!!!! The living prophet. He is speaking!!! God is revealing truth to us through him this Saturday and Sunday! I hope we all make the time to hear from him.
